In a ceremony at the Technion University in Haifa, the Head of the Human Resources Branch of the IDF at the time, Maj. Gen. Gil Regev, gave a speech at the opening of the preparatory program comprised of 41 students from the Israeli Ethiopian community. Maj. Gen. Regev noted that the point of the program is for the youths to develop their abilities within the IDF and by extension Israeli society. At the end of the program the students will be eligible for college degrees within the academic degree program of the IDF.
